Sustainability

Sustainable innovation for a better future.

Sustainable manufacturing isn't just good for the environment — it's essential for long-term business success. AIC develops products and processes that reduce environmental impact while delivering the performance customers need.

Our sustainability commitment

Three commitments we are prepared to be measured against.

Environmental responsibility

  • Reducing hazardous chemical use — 16 OPP SK grades plus Advance Adhesive-TEX, Manson GL 02 Black, Manson UI RED 06 FX, OPP AS HARDENER and AIC Retarder hold ZDHC MRSL Level 1 conformance
  • Developing low-VOC and water-based alternatives
  • Waste reduction programmes on the production floor
  • Energy-efficient manufacturing processes

Product innovation

  • LED-curable inks
  • Water-based formulations with lower VOC content
  • Low-migration systems for food packaging
  • Recyclable and sustainable packaging materials

Regulatory leadership

  • ZDHC MRSL Version 3.1 — Level 1 Conformance for 16 OPP SK grades plus Advance Adhesive-TEX, Manson GL 02 Black, Manson UI RED 06 FX, OPP AS HARDENER and AIC Retarder
  • Restricted substances excluded from the certified grades
  • Alignment with international environmental standards
  • Transparent chemical composition disclosure to qualified customers

Sustainable product solutions

Four product routes for customers reducing environmental load.

ZDHC — the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals programme — certifies named grades, and the scope below states exactly which ones.

Water-based inks

  • Water carrier in place of organic solvent
  • Lower VOC content than solvent-based equivalents, stated per grade on the TDS
  • Water cleanup on press and in the mixing room
  • Reduced fire hazard in storage and handling
  • Suited to customers reducing on-site solvent use

UV-LED curable inks

  • LED curing typically consumes substantially less energy than conventional mercury UV lamps
  • Longer lamp life, so fewer lamp replacements
  • Lower heat generation, suited to heat-sensitive substrates
  • No ozone production
  • Instant curing

ZDHC MRSL Level 1 — 16 certified OPP SK grades plus Advance Adhesive-TEX, Manson GL 02 Black, Manson UI RED 06 FX, OPP AS HARDENER and AIC Retarder

  • ZDHC MRSL Version 3.1 — Level 1 Conformance
  • Each certified grade or product is covered by its own Certificate of Conformance or SGS test report
  • Grades outside that list are not certified, and AIC makes no ZDHC claim for them
  • Certificate and test report copies for qualified customers on request

Low-migration packaging inks

  • Formulated for indirect food-contact packaging
  • Designed to limit migration through the substrate
  • Supports customer conformity work for packaging applications
  • Migration testing available through third-party laboratories

LED-curing characteristics listed above are general properties of LED-curing technology as reported across the industry — they are not AIC-measured results. AIC publishes no comparative energy or emission figures of its own, and product-specific values are stated on the Technical Data Sheet for each grade.

Environmental management

How the plant is run today.

The practices below are in place now. Work still to be built — closed-loop processing, solvent and material recovery, water recycling, renewable energy — is published as a target, not a capability.

Waste reduction

  • Production waste minimised through batch planning
  • Solvent discipline in cleaning and changeover
  • Waste streams segregated at source
  • Hazardous waste disposed of through licensed channels

Energy efficiency

  • Energy-efficient equipment on dispersion and milling lines
  • Process optimisation to reduce energy used per batch
  • Scheduled maintenance to keep motors and drives running efficiently

Water management

  • Effluent treatment before discharge
  • Water use controlled in cleaning and changeover
  • Safe discharge practices

Supply chain sustainability

We work with suppliers who share our commitment to:

Supplier expectations are set at approval and reviewed through the vendor audit programme that also governs incoming material quality.

Ethical sourcing practices
Environmental responsibility
Worker safety and fair labour
Transparent supply chains

Customer sustainability goals

Helping customers meet requirements they are held to.

How we help

  • Product selection guidance for lower environmental impact
  • Technical support for transitioning to water-based and UV-LED systems
  • Documentation for green certification submissions
  • Process optimisation to reduce waste and rework

What customers use it for

  • Meeting environmental regulations in their own markets
  • Evidence packs for green building certification submissions
  • Carbon footprint reduction work
  • Answering environmentally conscious buyers
  • Reducing hazardous waste disposal costs
